About From Earthstars to Destroying Angels: An introduction to mushrooms & other fungi

On March 7, Richard Aaron – nature educator and avid mushroom enthusiast – is coming to Ivanhoe to shine a light on the fascinating world of fungi as part of the Hastings Stewardship Council, Winter Speaker Series.

In his illustrated talk, “From Earthstars to Destroying Angels: An introduction to mushrooms & other fungi,” Richard will share stories about a host of intriguing species found in Southern Ontario, from mushrooms that glow in the dark to a puffball that can produce over seven trillion spores. He will also discuss the vital roles that fungi play in the environment.

Richard is a seasoned naturalist who has been studying fungi since 1994. He is best known for the Fabulous Fall Fungi workshops he teaches each fall at Queen’s University Biological Station. He also presents workshops on a variety of nature topics for naturalist clubs, conservation groups, universities, and others (natureknowledge.weebly.com), and has worked as a staff naturalist at Algonquin Provincial Park.

Join us on Thursday, March 7 from 7 to 9 pm at the Community Hall, 11379 Highway 62, in Ivanhoe, north of Belleville. The cost is $5; children are free. For more information, contact Ray Wellman at 613-848-7697 or info@hastingsstewardship.ca
